Captain John Smith James River Trail
The VA Dept. of Conservation & Recreation recently announced the creation of this new trail. This is a boating and driving trail along the James River that chronicles Smith’s explorations of the waterway between 1607 and 1609. The trail was created as part of statewide preparations for the 400th anniversary of the founding of Jamestown. This trail demonstrates the feasibility of establishing a National Historic Water Trail.
