Friends of the John Smith Chesapeake Trail

2009 year end

2009 Year in Review:
A Banner Year for the Chesapeake Bay and the Friends

This has been a monumental year for the Chesapeake Bay and a year of progress and success for the Friends. The Capt. John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail has come alive along the Chesapeake’s great rivers. President Obama signed the first ever Executive Order on the restoration and protection of the Chesapeake Bay. Regional strategies for the conservation of the Bay’s treasured landscapes have emerged. The convergence of these events has created unparalleled opportunity for the Bay and the Capt. John Smith Chesapeake Trail. The Friends made progress in building the organization, and in its mission to conserve the Chesapeake's treasured landscapes, create more public access to the bay, and support the trail.
