Susquehanna Sojourn 2007: The Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay's 17th annual Susquehanna Sojourn will close its most recent five- year voyage to the Bay. The Sojourn started in Cooperstown in 2002, in Nanticoke in 2003, Sayre in 2004, Sherburne and Keating in 2005 and Berwick in 2006. In 2007, the Sojourn will complete the final segment in the voyage from Cooperstown to the Chesapeake Bay. In addition, the Sojourn will help commemorate the 400th anniversary of the exploration of the Chesapeake Bay by Captain John Smith in his wooden shallop, meeting the 1607 era reconstructed shallop (see Capt. John Smith 400 Project above) and its 14 member, authentically dressed crew as they row up the Susquehanna to Port Deposit. Festivities in these lower Susquehanna river towns will center around the explorations of Captain Smith and the Sojourners will become immersed in the cultural and historical aspects of his voyage. As the Shallop leaves Port Deposit the following day, Sojourners will follow it down river to events in Perryville and Havre de Grace, retracing the path of Smith's original expedition.
