The Chesapeake Conservancy was formed through a merger of the Friends of the John Smith Chesapeake Trail and Friends of Chesapeake Gateways. You can also visit the National Park Service's Chesapeake Bay Gateways and Watertrails website at www.baygateways.net for additional
information on the Gateways Network, an innovative partnership program that stretches across the Bay watershed.
Since 2006, Friends of Chesapeake Gateways has worked to enhance the Chesapeake Bay Gateways and Watertrails Network through capacity-building, public outreach and advocacy. The mission of the network is to help the public access and enjoy the natural, cultural and recreational resources of the Chesapeake and its rivers and to engage in their stewardship.
In partnership with the more than 160 designated Gateways and Watertrails, the Conservancy has an unique opportunity to promote public access, conservation, education and stewardship throughout the 64,000 square-mile Bay watershed.
